To apply for financial aid, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once you have completed the FAFSA, a member of our Financial Services Team will work with you to develop a financial plan that suits your needs.

Private Student Aid:
Several types of loans are available to students and their parents (if applicable) through private lending institutions. Requirements vary, and all loans must be repaid.
South University participates in private loan programs in conjunction with Sallie Mae. The Creative Education Loan Program (CELP) is available for students who qualify. Contact Student Financial Services at 1-877-872-8869 for eligibility criteria.

Grants, scholarships, and other benefits are often based on a combination of criteria and do not have to be repaid. Grants are primarily for students in financial need, while scholarships are awarded based on criteria such as academic performance and affiliations.
A number of states, including Pennsylvania, also offer educational grants. Some states permit their residents to use the grants at schools outside of the state. Contact the Student Financial Services more details.

There are three types of aid you may be eligible for, including:

Montgomery G.I. Bill - Active Duty & Veteran
What is it?
MGIB provides up to 36 months (4 regular school years) of education benefits to eligible veterans for:
- College, Business
- Technical or Vocational Courses
- Correspondence Courses
- Apprenticeship/Job Training
- Flight Training
Who is Eligible?
- Active Duty members who have served at least two years on active duty.
- Veterans - there are four categories of Veteran eligibility depending on when you enlisted and how long you served on active duty.
Benefit
- Up to $985.00 per month for full-time institutional education (beginning Oct. 1, 2003).
- Benefits end 10 years from the date of your last discharge or release from active duty.
- You must forfeit $100 / mth of your basic pay for the first year of Active Duty. This amount is non-refundable.
Montgomery G.I. Bill - Selected Reserves
What is it?
Same as MGIB Active Duty.
Who is Eligible?
- Six-year obligation to serve in the Selected Reserve.
- Officers must agree to serve six years in addition to their original obligation.
- High school diploma/GED.
- Maintain Selected Reserve Status.
Benefit
- Up to $276.00 per month for full-time institutional education (as of Oct. 1, 2002).
- Generally your benefits end 14 years from the date you become eligible for the program.
- You do not forfeit any pay as in the Active Duty version. The benefit is correspondingly less.
Loan Repayment (LRP) and Tuition Assistance (TA) Programs
What is it?
Your service may partially or fully repay college loans.
Who is Eligible?
Generally for enlisted members only. Several factors detemine your eligibility, including your branch, your MOS, and terms of your contract. Your loans must be in good standing, i.e. not in default.
Benefit
Repayment program information is specialized depending on your branch of the military. There are also specialized loan repayment programs for health professional officers. Please see your education officer for details.
Tuiition Assistance "Top-Up" Program
What is it?

Who is Eligible?
To be eligible for the Top-up benefit, the person must be approved for federal Tuition Assistance by a military department and be eligible for MGIB-Active Duty benefits.

Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)
What is it?
Available if you elected to make contributions from your military pay to participate. For degree, certificate, correspondence, apprenticeship/on-the-job training programs, and vocational flight training programs. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher training may also be available.
Who is Eligible?
To be eligible, you need to meet the following requirements:
- Entered service for the first time between January 1, 1977, and June 30, 1985;
- Opened a contribution account before April 1, 1987;
- Contributed $25-$2700;
- Completed 1st period of service;
- Discharge/release was not dishonorable.
Benefit
Your contributions are matched on a $2 for $1 basis by the Government.
Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA)
What is it?
Education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans. May be used for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship, and on-the-job training.
Who is Eligible?
You must be the son, daughter, or spouse of a service member who died, is missing, or was permanently disabled while on duty or as a result of a service-related condition.
Benefit
DEA reduces your tuition amount - you may pay three months' instead of six months' tuition, for example.
Tutorial Assistance Program
What is it?
Tutorial assistance for programs you are having difficulty with. If you have questions on this program please contact our toll-free number 1-888-442-4551.
Who is Eligible?
If you are receiving VA benefits at a half-time or more rate, you are eligible.
Benefit
VA may provide you with a tutor or with information for finding one.
Transfer of Credit
University credit for military experience and training
Students who wish to have their military experience and training evaluated for university credit should submit copies of appropriate forms to the registrar's office. Veterans should submit DD Form 214, and active duty military personnel should submit DD Form 295. Active duty Army personnel and soldiers discharged since October 1, 1986, should also provide the registrar with copies of their Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcripts.
Federal PLUS Loan for Parents
As a parent, you may be eligible to qualify for the Federal PLUS (the parent loan for undergraduate students) Loan if you have a dependent child in school. Parents are encouraged to apply for this loan after their dependent has received a student financial plan, so that they know the recommended amount to borrow. The maximum amount a parent may borrow is the cost of your education minus any aid that you are receiving.
Parents must complete the Borrower section of the form students must complete the Student section. If applying online, you must print out, sign and mail the Promissory Note. Both parent and student must sign the Promissory Note. You can apply online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ or contact our Financial Services Department for assistance.
There are several scholarships are available to help students with tuition at South University. Scholarships come from a variety of institutional, public, and private sources and recipients must meet proper eligibility criteria. Georgia Residents may be eligible for a number of funding programs from the state of Georgia:
HOPE Scholarship:
The Georgia Hope Scholarship is available to GA residents who have displayed high academic success at previous institutions or in High School. You must complete an application to help us determine your eligibility. You can complete it here.
Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG):
The Tuition Equalization Grant is available to academically qualified Full-time students. You must be a GA resident. Completing the application at http://www.gacollege411.org will allow us to review your eligibility for this grant.
HERO Scholarship:
The GA HERO Scholarship is available for GA Residents who are members of the GA National Guard or Reservists. You must have served 151 days on Active duty from on, or after May 3, 2005.
